let's start with otafest 2009... wait, wasn't that more than a month ago?

i'm sorry, i'm lazy.

so here goes: it's good. the end.

really, it's been an uneventful year (in a good way). i was working as part of the security team mostly at bag check.

me: can you describe your bag?
attendee: it's black.
me: ... and?
attendee: it's a bag.
me:... *turns around and sees a mountain of non-descript black bags* *facepalm*

i also helped out anywhere i can when we were short-handed. this year we had johnny young bosh (a pretty famous voice acter AND the second american version black ranger!!!) and applegeeks as guests, and they were really good folks to hang around. it's all good. i can't really find anything to complain about.

oh, and kelly (aka major armstrong from fma) military pressed me. srsly. he freakin' military pressed me up in the air. that's more than ~~130~~ 120 lb of meat!

that's it for otafest, now let's talk about anime evo 2009.

the venue was awesome. this was the best smelling anime con ever. but there were some major problems too.

1. nothing started or ended on time.
2. not nearly enough signage.
3. garbage cans? what's that? we only have recycle bins for organics, mix paper, and bottles.
4. the music next door was freaking loud.
5. what happened to pre-reg's badge numbers? why bother having them at all?
6. panels were plentiful, but most of them were boring as hell.
7. no communication within ae, and from ae. no one knew what's going on and you couldn't find anyone to do anything when there's a problem.
8. they double charged the artists at artists alley. even though the problem was resolved at the end of the day, you had to wonder how that major goof happened in the first place.
9. cherity auction. the dude who ran the cherity auction was showing hard porns on screen when there were minors in the room. and the guy was being a complete jerk to everyone.

all in all, it was an enjoyable year because of the people i went to ae with. rob and jay were awesome. their fic made my entire weekend.

and i met shanejayell in person! i basically walked up to a person who i thought might be him and asked "are you shanejayell?" while in a maid outfit. yup.

why was i in a maid outfit? because i was in a cosplay contest performing a funny skit. jen-chan and another 5 friends dressed up as zombies and went after me. i knocked them back with toy hammer/mace. it was good fun.

this was my first ccee experience, and what an experience it was.

without the second day of ccee, i wouldn't want to go back again as a volunteer (unless jenny begs). but as things turned out, because i had so much fun at the second day of the expo, i would go back and work my ass off again next year.

let's see:
1. i'm prepared for the worst next time. now that i've worked ccee's reg desk, i know what to expect next year (and for otafest too). this was my biggest beef.
2. ONE LINE IS GOOD. we were trying to be "fair" and came up with a smart idea of "hey, let's separate the pre-reg line and the normal line and also create another line for letting people in the door" and we failed big time. people in general are stupid. they don't see signs, they kick them around and trip over them. one line for everything is good.
3. need more debit machine that work. and we need more atm OUTSIDE the door too.
4. more volunteers for everything. we made 2 pre-pube girls do crowd control for 4 hours straight. we were doing it wrong.
5. ccee needs to treat their volunteer better. you are making them work 9-hour shift, at least offer them a sip of water (or a break. a break would be good since you were making them work STANDING UP). the good thing is, because people working reg-desk didn't even get a sip of water, they didn't need to go on washroom break! what a foresight on ccee's part! /sarcasm.

well, at least it can't be any worst next year. dispite all the bad experience from the first day, i actually had a lot of fun and got to take a break and enjoy the con for a bit. if anyone asks me, i will go back and volunteer next year in a heartbeat.

on top of work, i'm taking 2 classes now. it's gonna be work-study-work-study for the next 4 months. at least. if i'm doing well for my classes, i'm planning to keep this schedule for a while (not for the summer though. summer is for fun and fanficcing).

here's my belated new year's resolutions:

1) try to finish my on-going hime fics. the key word here is "try."
2) work out. i failed the fatness test (aka if-you-slap-your-butt-and-your-belly-giggles-then-you're-fat).
3) take at least 6 classes this year and ace them all.

let's see what'll happen.

p.s. me is extra happy today 'cause i got a package of biscuits from diana :)

jenny and i both bough a complete set of mai-hime dvds. i got the mega pack that came with a shiny t-shirt and pretty treasure box, and jenny got the anime-legend compact set that doesn't come with as much blings. i was gonna take a picture and gloat again, but i got lazy and decided to google image see what would come up. voila. someone (who has the exact same shade of carpet) already took a nice picture of the entire set i got a while ago. so i got lazy and yoinked the picture for my own use. muahahaha. ain't i a genius? :D

my first week of work was nice. jenny's face would still crunch up in mock jealousy every time i mention my office and the free pops. really, i have nothing worth complaining about other than the bad choice of unending soft country music blasting off from the office across the hall. oh, that, and a very stiff left shoulder. both problems are easily fixable. i can block off the bad music with a headphone connecting to my ipod, and i get my entire back massaged by jenny's magical hands when i get home.

so far, life in calgary is good.

oh, and, i finally bought mai-hime dvds! whee!

i got the job at cnrl! whee! after a ridiculous long wait (1 whole month and 2 interviews later), i'll be starting at the 29th. that means, i'll be back in vancouver and pack all my stuff this weekend and then officially move to calgary next week!

2 more days till anime evolution, i hope the weather clears up... on the other hand, i hope it keeps raining 'cause it's been sooooo freaking hot!

~~my little brother is experiencing stage fright. i doubt he will don luffy's costume. oh well. can't force a guy to expose so much skin if he doesn't want to.~~

my house is experiencing a seriously disgusting case of silverfish infestation. i would spot one almost every time i go to the bathroom. *shivers* in case anyone doesn't know, i have a phobia for insects.

last night i had an apocalyptic experience. i went to the bathroom in the middle of the night, when i flipped the light on, there were at least 5 silver-freaking-fish-es. i killed 4 (i'm forced to get rather good at killing them after a while. DIE DIE DIE!), 1 ran away. i went back to sleep, i felt unclean and my skin crawled. to top it off, i had a disgusting nightmare involving giant-talking-silver-fucking-fish-es afterward.

in short, sfu screwed ae over. hard. postponing/possibly canceling a con with barely 1 month notice? *shakes head* i suspect lots of folks are going to be highly offended. think about the amount of money wasted for travel expenses. not to mention most of us have to take days off from work to attend the con.

so far, i haven't seen any official announcement for refund yet, which is downright ridiculous. if they can't secure a venue 1 month before the event, the first thing they should do right after the postponement should be an update on the latest refund policy. the longer they delay that, the more pissed off out-of-town con-goers are.

jenny got some temp tattoo paper and i got myself a hime mark on my back. whee!

haven't been able to update for so long. calgary is awesome. i got to wear a cowboy hat for an entire day without feeling out of place at the stampede. haha. and i hit the ball 4 times during my very first softball game as an emergency sub. i got home twice! ahh, good time, good time.
